Edna Hughes

Edna Turner Hughes, 92 of Rockport, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 4, 2014.
Edna was born to Maude and Harry Turner on December 16, 1921. Edna grew up to be quite a homemaker. She cooked all the time to feed her 7 kids. In later years, it became a tradition for every holiday meal and Sunday dinners to be at Edna’s house. She would feed whoever came. Edna was a very active member of Cooper Assembly of God Church, until her health prevented her from going. Edna also loved to quilt. She hand quilted every grandchild and great grandchildren their own quilt when they were born.
Edna is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lonnie Hughes and one son; James “Sonny” Hughes.
Edna is survived by 5 sons; Lonnie Lee Hughes (Teresa) of Rockport; Freddy Hughes of Rockport; Warren (Ava) Hughes of Gifford; and Joe (Diane) Hughes of Alexander and Darrell (Shirley) Hughes of Rockport, one daughter Sharon (David) Petty of Jones Mill. Edna is also survived by two sisters; Leona Hockett and Betty Rooker, both of Kansas; 18 grandchildren, 42 great -grandchildren and 7 great-great- grandchildren and numerous extended family members that loved her dearly. She also leaves behind her special dog, Sandy.
Services will be held on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be on Tuesday August 5, 2014 from 6-8 PM in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rockport Cemetery following the service.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be pallbearers.
