  • J.D. Thompson, 78, of Malvern passed away at his home on April 29, 2015.

    J.D. was born January 9, 1937 in Jacksonville, TX to Jess Doyle Thompson Sr. and Emma Lindsay Thompson. He was involved in underground mining in AR, NM, and WY and was a federal mine inspector. He was a commercial truck driver for BTL in Malvern and Mountain Valley Water in Hot Springs and owned NAT Dump Truck Co. J.D. retired in 2001. He resumed playing the guitar and mandolin after a 50 year break and played with the Yesteryear’s Band, J.D. and Friends, Gospel Strings and Keys, and The Silvertones. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Malvern. He was a master gardener, antique car restorer, and mechanic.
    J.D. is predeceased by his sisters, Oneta Burris and Anna Lee Scott.
    J.D. is survived by his wife, NiAnn Allbritton Thompson; children, Larry Randall Thompson of Germantown Hills, IL, Ricky Glen Thompson of Saginaw, TX, Tommy Dean Thompson of Sheridan, AR, and Vicki Lynn Thompson of Bedford, TX; stepchildren, Bobbie Scott Runion of Pine Bluff, AR and Charles Q. Scott of Grapevine, AR; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
    Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Chapel with Rev. Dr. Catherine Allsbury officiating. Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Kevin Baker, Charles Baker, Greg Runion Sr., Gregory Runion Jr., Charles Scott, Jimmy Scott, and Tony Scott.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 707 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Malvern, AR 72104.
