Florence Smith

Florence Gertrude Hiatt Smith, 95, of Arlington, TX, formerly of Malvern, AR went to her heavenly home April 7, 2016.
She was born in Fenter, AR on July 21, 1920 to Roy E. and Gracie Hiatt. She was the eldest of their 5 children; she was naturally endowed with a sweet and loving character that distinguished her as a mother, and a loyal caregiving friend to many. She continued unto death to show kindness and a caregiving spirit upon everyone she met.
Florence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Florence was married to James E. Smith Jr. on April 23, 1942. Together she and James owned and operated the Coston Motel, and the Totem Pole, in Malvern, the Dr. Locke Shoe store in Hot Springs, AR and the Flags Motel in Arlington, TX.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, her brothers; AJ and Calvin Hiatt, and her sisters; Connie Otts, and Bonnie Shelnutt.
Florence is survived by her son, James E. (Jim) Smith III of Malvern, AR; daughters, Debbie and husband Billy Barnes of Alvarado, TX; and Deann Hill of Arlington, TX; grandson, Greg Barnes, and granddaughters Tracy (Jonas) Hollandsworth, and Cearra Hill, and 2 great-grandsons, Hayden and Landon Hollandsworth.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dave Cash officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
