Esther Hughes

Esther Cassie (Ward) Hughes, 95, of New DeRoche passed away August 17, 2016. Esther was born to Hensley and Elza (Parish) Ward on April 12, 1921.  Esther loved to spend her time outside in the garden. She was a strong willed, hard working woman with a heart of gold and will be greatly missed.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hurchel Hughes, and her brothers, Milburn Ward and Jimmy Ward.

Esther is survived by her daughter, Rita (Mike) Allman of New DeRoche; her sister, Alma Hughes, her grandchildren, Denise “Nikki” (Casey) Manning of New DeRoche; and Justin (Amy) Allman of Bismarck. She also leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren, Gunner, Andrew, Brayden, Harper, Peyton and Jackson.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the Atkinson Chapel with Bro. Alan Cansler officiating.  Interment will be at Prairie Bayou Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hal Hughes, Neal Hughes, Timmy Don Hughes, Corkey Pankey, Dale Harvey and Gunner Todd.
