  • Joan Rusher Lowry, 71, of Malvern passed away July 28, 2017. Joan was born to the late Joseph Leroy Rusher Sr. and Marie Slyvestra McHan Rusher on June 8, 1946 in Malvern, AR. Joan being a strong, determined, kind hearted and loving woman had a great love for children and taking care of them. She also loved to travel, shop, go camping, sing, and go bowling.  Joan with her sweet, loving and nurturing soul will be greatly missed.

    Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Coleman Lowry and two brothers, Loyd Rusher and Leroy Rusher Jr.

    Joan is survived by her daughters, Tania (Jerome) Catlett of Hot Springs; and Deborah (David) McJunkin of Malvern; her grandchildren, Kristin (Jaraad) Hasan, Heather (Zachary) Cardin, Day McJunkin, Eric Catlett, Damien Catlett and Jeremy Catlett. She also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren and many other friends and loved ones.

    A Visitation for Joan will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Malvern. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Thomas McJunkin officiating. Pallbearers will be Damien Catlett, Matthew Rusher, Joey Rusher, Eric Catlett, Zachary Cardin, and Carlin Demoret. Honorary Pallbearers are the UAMS Oncology and ICU Staff. Interment will follow service at the Resthaven Cemetery.

    I am very sorry for the loss of Joan. I loved her. She was my cousin. I haven't seen her in years but I will always remember her . She was always happy and fun loving.
