• Maudie Marie Honeycutt Combs,

    1 Nov 2018

  •

It is with great sadness that the family of Maudie Marie Honeycutt Combs announces her passing on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the age of 95 years.  Mrs. Combs will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and community.

Maudie Combs was born in Hot Springs County to the late Burton L. and Lois Anderson Honeycutt, the oldest of four children.  She married Alonzo W. Combs on November 4, 1939, and they raised three children:  Mitchell A. Combs (Glenda), Capella Combs Demoret, and Ruzema Combs Hughes Draper (Harry), as well as a daughter, Peggy Ann Combs, who died in infancy.

She proudly worked as a cook in the Malvern Public Schools for nearly 30 years and was renowned for her culinary prowess; among her specialties were her famous bear claws and Indian tacos.  Focusing on being a Christian-mom, her heart and home were open to others, and she always made her guests feel welcome.

From her inviting front porch, she loved sitting and visiting with friends and family.  All admired the zinnias which annually lined the sidewalk leading to her home.  The bright and colorful flowers epitomized the warm-hearted, happy, and forever-smiling woman who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Maudie was very active in her church and American Legion. She served 22 years in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Other than her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband Alonzo, son Mitchell, daughter Peggy Ann, granddaughter Valena Demoret, and great-grandson John Demoret.

She is survived by her loving daughters—Capella and Ruzema; four grandchildren—Mitchell Combs, Jr., Michael Combs, Layten Hughes, and Joanie McDaniel (John); four great-grandchildren—Rachel Combs, Kayla Combs, Carlin Palmer, and Zander McDaniel; and great-great-grandchildren—Noah Demoret and Indica Palmer.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, and a memorial service will be held immediately afterward at 11:00 a.m., at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Pine Bluff Street in Malvern, Arkansas.

Memorial designations may be made in Mrs. Combs’ honor to the BrightFocus Foundation, the Macula Vision Research Foundation, or the North Main Church of Christ of Malvern, Arkansas.
